A few months ago the chairman at Beacon Productions, Steve Launay, asked me to edit a small promotional BTS look at their upcoming second season of their web series titled 80 Degrees. Whilst also including interviews with Steve himself along with other members of the club talking about what Beacon Productions is and not only what it is all about but also what it means to them. I myself first found out about Beacon through a friend of mine who I worked with on another project in London a while ago. He told me about this local club based in Southampton that he had worked with in the past and then told me about Steve. This was during my final year at University where it was mandatory that I seek out work experience in the industry and that I must work 40 hours in total to pass that Unit in my course. The reason being is so that when I eventually left Uni I would have some experience in the field of work that I want to do. So after getting in contact with Steve via email we organised a meeting at his house where we spoke about the club and its history, what type of role I normally excel in a production which in this case would be editing. Then we went on and just spoke about our love for film and TV and some of the things that inspired us to do what we do. It was after this meeting that he figured he would give me a chance and gave me a lot of raw material to work with and piece together a short five minute promo video detailing Beacon and the show that they were working on. It was only a couple of weeks later that I sent Steve the promo video I had put together for him to which I was met with a lot of positive reception from him and other members in the club.

Which then led to him having confidence in me to take my skills to the next level by actually editing two of the episodes in the series they had been filming during the start of the year. I felt excited to be working on not only one but two projects that for once weren’t my own but yet I still had a lot of creative freedom to pick and choose what shots I felt worked and what didn’t. There were only a few occasions throughout this collaboration where Steve informed me of some things during the early rough cuts of the episodes that he wanted removed or changed. Other than that I enjoyed being able to be a part of both of these productions even though it felt like I stepped in a lot later during the production. If you want to check out the two episodes of Beacon Production’s 80 Degrees series which I edited then you can by clicking here. Feel free to also subscribe to Beacon Productions YouTube page as well as they’re doing a lot of cool stuff over there. I hope to collaborate with Beacon Productions again soon as I thoroughly enjoyed working with them not only here but also in the past by actually being on set and assisting them on other projects they’ve done.
